Please regard this interview with the local politician, who had published an excellent article at Tagesspiegel about the feelings of gays at Berlin one week ago. So far, the public discussion of mainstream media is limited to Tagesspiegel, whose online articles have been numerously commented by readers.

TAGESSPIEGEL: “One minority against another”

In press on November 8, 2008 at 3:03 am

Tagesspiegel (daily, circulation 137.384) continues its coverage about gay hate crimes at Berlin. While authorities avoid to officially admit a statistically rising of homophobic attacks, Tagesspiegel knows about intern data by the police documenting violence against gays is increasing in fact. Many gays and lesbians at Berlin do not dare to hold hand in public anymore.

Update: Another large article at Tagesspiegel broaches the issues whether police should be allowed to collect data on sexual orientation of victims. Hate crimes do not appear in the national crime statistics. Inofficially, the police is realizing increasing hate crimes within the last three years (2005: 15, 2006: 28, 2007: 43). We suppose, that 2008 will be far above, not to mention unreported cases and a large dark figure. Even Turkish education projects at Berlin observe growing refusal of gays by young migrants. (gm)
